Job Summary
The Office of the Vice President for Research at the University of Connecticut invites applications for the position of Executive Director of Community Engagement and Outreach. The position will report to the Vice President for Research, Innovation, and Entrepreneurship (VPRIE), with a dotted line to the Office of Government Relations, and work closely with the Office of Outreach and Engagement, the Office of the President, and the Board of Trustees Institutional Advancement Committee.
Responsibilities and Duties
The Executive Director of Community Engagement and Outreach will be responsible for developing, growing, and sustaining multi-stakeholder relationships that promote the impact of UConn/UConn Health research, innovation, and entrepreneurship on local communities, municipalities, and regions within the state. This position will guide and support the development of engagement initiatives with local and state agencies, community-based organizations, faith-based organizations, municipalities, industry partners, alumni, and opinion leaders, and will work closely to align University priorities with local, state, and federal entities.
The Executive Director will foster local, regional, and state collaborative relationships that align university initiatives and strengths with key communities across the state, including broadening the impact of the Promise Program. The Executive Director should be experienced and adept at working with elected officials, community leaders, business leaders, school boards, education councils, and university leadership in creating partnerships that promote engagement opportunities and outcomes. The Executive Director will liaise with existing university efforts to inventory outreach and engagement activities and align the University’s research, scholarship, academic, creative, and outreach programs to meet the unique needs of Connecticut communities and municipalities; identify opportunities to increase the visibility and positive image of the institution's community-engaged strategies and their direct/tangible impact on specific communities; establish ongoing feedback mechanisms and updates to key constituents and stakeholders including university leadership and the Board of Trustees.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree.
At least 5 years of relevant experience and competencies in community-engaged partnership or leadership working with multilevel partners in municipal or state-wide government, higher education, industry, policy, nonprofit, or community organizations.
Demonstrated ability to build relationships and work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders within and external to the University.
Demonstrated ability to understand complex concepts and distill findings into clear, strategic insights.
Demonstrated ability to work both independently and in close coordination with cross-functional teams.
Demonstrated ability to quickly identify problems and solve them.
Demonstrated ability to work with diverse constituencies to advance programmatic and economic development initiatives and objectives.
Demonstrated ability to communicate demographic, educational, and research results to a broad range of audiences.
Strong interpersonal, oral, presentation, and written communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working with top elected officials at the municipal or state level.
Experience in economic and/or workforce development.
Experience working with governmental and non-governmental organizations
Experience working with print and broadcast media, including real-time interviews.
Appointment Terms
