Job Details:

This position is responsible for handling a statement of legal work related to regulatory compliance and enforcement in the areas of food safety, product recalls and animal health, which includes representation of the company before the United States Department of Agriculture, the Food and Drug Administration, and other state and federal agencies. The individual will also support and collaborate with other internal stakeholders to formulate and draft food and agriculture policy positions for the company, assist in the preparation of comments for proposed regulatory changes and rulemaking, and provide technical and legal assistance to the business with respect to food and agricultural regulatory issues.

This position reports directly to the Chief C ounsel for Regulatory Compliance and Competition.

REQUIREMENTS:

Education : Law degree (JD) from an accredited institution and Masters of Law (LL.M.) in Food and Agricultural Law. License to practice law in at least one jurisdiction required.

Experience: 5 plus years of legal experience, with emphasis on food safety, animal health and agricultural issues.

Computer Skills: Standard computer skills.

Communication Skills: Superior written and verbal communication skills. This position must demonstrate an ability to effectively and timely communicate with and respond to clients along with an ability to provide competent risk assessment advice.

Special Skills: Strong interpersonal and organizational skills. This position relies on extensive experience and sound judgment to independently plan and accomplish goals.

Supervisory: No direct supervisory responsibilities but may provide functional supervision for other members of the work unit such as assigning and overseeing tasks and delivering training.

Travel: Travel, including both domestic and international, is required but varies with workload.
