Executive Director of Public Relations and Marketing

Profile

The executive director of public relations and marketing serves as the college’s chief public information officer and as a member of the president’s team. This position will be responsible for designing and implementing an overall college internal and external communications strategy that advances the college’s mission, educates the public, and garners support from the community. Additionally, the executive director will coordinate and oversee all aspects of public relations, serving as the college’s chief spokesperson and working to present a compelling image of the college’s goals and accomplishments. The executive director will also oversee the areas of marketing, government relations, communicating with elected officials and government agencies, and the Maryland Association of Community Colleges.
Requirements:
Master’s degree in public relations, marketing, mass communications, journalism or a related field required, and seven to ten years of progressively responsible experience in public relations required; or approved combination of education and experience.
A background in media relations and marketing is required.
Experience in the higher education, the non-profit sector, and/or legislative relations preferred.
A background in strategic planning is preferred.
Knowledge of fundraising fundamentals and strategies is helpful.
Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills are essential.
Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills are vital.
Management and teambuilding skills are critical.
Understanding of or experience using current and emerging technologies to access and share information.
Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
