The Direct to Consumer Group is a technology company within the broader Discovery brand. We are building a global streaming video platform (OTT), and a suite of applications to support all of our network\u2019s brands globally. We are building modern container- based microservices operated on AWS. Our platform covers everything from search, catalogue, video transcoding, personalization, to global subscriptions, and much more. We build user experiences ranging from classic lean-back viewing to interactive learning applications. We build for connected TVs, web, mobile phones, tablets, and consoles for a large footprint of Discovery owned networks. (Discovery, Food Network, Golf TV, MotorTrend, Eurosport, DPlay, and many more) This is a growing, global engineering group crucial to Discovery\u2019s future.
Discovery is searching for a VP, Product Management-Technical, Global Partner Integration to join our team. We are looking for that rare candidate with a detailed product and engineering understanding of the OTT ecosystem, experience building & maintaining vendor or partner relationships, the ability to lead solutions architecture discussions and will be an experienced people leader. The successful candidate will also have a deep knowledge of set top box software.
Responsibilities
The ideal candidate has had experience influencing and aligning business objectives to technical roadmaps and has participated in launching new lines of business globally. They have a passion for scaled solutions that are lightweight and repeatable, transparent communication, collaboration and operational excellence. This candidate sees the value in holistic test plans and procedures and is constantly looking for ways to automate testing, workflow, and integration steps. This role will lead a global team of technical account managers, solutions architects, and operations managers.
Qualifications
Minimum of 12 years of proven experience in product management in technology or media.
Solid understanding of data collection, tracking and data analysis. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Experience as a technical leader, leading the design and development of complex applications.
Experience with microservices architectures, operational use of cloud computing applications preferred
Demonstrated ability to work with leaders and peers to evaluate new ideas, discuss business and product concepts, create compelling product designs, implement new features and systems, and make tradeoffs to remove roadblocks.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Strong sense of ownership for the success of the business and products objectives including the belief in constant iteration to improve team, self, and product.
A BS degree in Computer Science or a related field is preferred.
Software Engineering experience is required.
Demonstrated ability to work with executive leaders, peers, vendors, and partners peers to evaluate new ideas, discuss business and product concepts, create compelling product designs, implement new features and systems, and influence tradeoffs to remove roadblocks.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Can communicate the results of your work clearly to your audience.
Experience with video and streaming subscription products is required.
