What We’re Looking For:
The VP, Strategy and Planning is responsible for driving the overall growth strategy for the degree business through strategic planning, market research, investment analysis, and performance measurement against plan. This senior leader identifies and evaluates new market opportunities and/or business models, develops economic analyses, and builds compelling business cases to achieve sustainable business growth. The VP will lead a team that seeks to grow market share and maximize profitability, while working across the organization to execute against these plans. In an ever-changing environment, this leader should be able to balance multiple short- and long-term deliverables, inspire team innovation, and help drive 2U to meet it’s long-term strategic and financial goals.
Responsibilities Include, But Are Not Limited To:
Growth Strategy & Innovation
// Identify & evaluate business expansion opportunities, alternative business models, and non-traditional growth opportunities. This may include identifying new customer segments, markets, products, or partnerships to drive long term, sustainable growth for the degree business.
Investment Analysis & Performance Management
// Define, maintain and evaluate progress against the 3-year plan for the degree business. Oversee the Investment Analysis and Product Ops teams responsible for developing multi-year strategies and goals, conducting financial modeling for new program & partnership opportunities, measuring portfolio performance, and developing actionable solutions to improve portfolio performance.
Market Research & Insights
// Develop actionable market insights by designing primary and other types of research studies. Oversee the Market Research team responsible for providing market-level and product-level insights to the business. Proactively field primary research and leverage secondary research to make actionable decisions that drive new product opportunities, product expansion, and risk mitigation tactics that allow 2U to meet its long-term strategic and financial goals. Provide market and product insights to other senior leaders across the organization to help them drive optimal performance for their respective areas of focus.
Client & Stakeholder Engagement
// Build and foster internal and external relationships to maintain constant awareness of business strategy, operations and performance across the degree portfolio. Develop and pitch the market, product, and financial narrative for new partnership and product expansion opportunities, and frequently follow-up to evaluate performance against the plan.
Things That Should Be In Your Background:
Bachelor's degree required; Master’s degree preferred from a top-ranked institution
12-15 years of experience in strategy, business development, or related functions ideally at a technology company
A track record of building strong relationships with key internal and external stakeholders
P&L ownership in previous roles, with strong financial acumen
Demonstrated success leading teams
Track record of success and driving value for an organization
Ability to think out of the box and find creative, unorthodox solutions when needed
Must be a self-starter and able to prioritize multiple assignments simultaneously
Ability to make intuitive and thoughtful decisions
Strong communication skills
Sense of humor
