Job Summary
Reporting to the EVP, Human Resources, Comcast Cable, this VP, Military and Veterans Initiatives will work collaboratively across Comcast, NBCUniversal, and SKY to provide strategic leadership to all aspects of programs and outreach engaging the military and veteran community. Working under the 'Symphony' rubric, this role will harness the collective efforts across multiple stakeholders to include Talent Acquisition, Diversity and Inclusion, Community Impact, Government Affairs, Comcast ULearn, and key Cable and NBCUniversal business leaders to expand business opportunities, capitalize on recruiting, hiring and retaining the best military connected talent to the organization, and grow Comcast-NBCU's reputation as one of the nation's foremost corporate leaders in the military and veteran's space.
Job Description
Collaboratively define a multi-year cross company military engagement strategy and operating plan. Focus on building military talent pools at all levels of the organization and ensuring world-class military-connected engagement, development, and retention initiatives, enhancing national recognition of Comcast's military ready brand. Identify strategic opportunities impact key business lines through development of military friendly offers and promotions (e.g. parks, CAE scripts, veteran owned businesses, government contracts, etc)
Serve as unifying leader aligning efforts across the organization around strategic priorities and partnerships in support of Comcast's overall military and veteran goals. Specific examples include:
Work with DE&I to emphasize the role of military connected employees and their ties to all ERGs, serve as the National Advisor for VetNet. Assist to build cross communication and collaboration between VetNet and all other ERGs.
Work in tandem with Community Impact entities at Comcast and NBCUniversal to align funding priorities in the veteran space and identify new and unique opportunities to support strategic objectives through our foundation grants and community service participation.
Align military recruitment strategies across cable, field, and NBCUniversal to meet and exceed aggressive and visible veteran hiring targets over next 5 years. Impact Comcast-NBCU's leadership ethos by fueling key pipelines with exceptional veteran talent.
In partnership with Comcast ULearn, provide expertise in the development of common curricula in support of military employee on-boarding, development, and mentorship to support transition, retention, and growth of military employees. Work to develop specific rotational and other programs to accelerate hiring and on-boarding of unique military talent into the leadership bench for key business lines.
Provide strategic guidance and support to our product, services, and marketing teams to attract and retain active military/veterans and their families as long-term customers.
Serve as subject matter expert on the opportunities, issues, and challenges facing transitioning military, military families, veterans, and Reservists. Represent Comcast at numerous federal, industry, and diversity partnerships to shape the dialogue on military hiring and support in Corporate America. Identify and maintain key national partnerships in the military community space in support of Comcast strategic objectives (U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation, Student Veterans of America, etc)
Foster direct partnerships with Department of Defense (Soldier for Life) and Department of Labor (VETS- Veterans' Employment and Training Service) entities to develop and implement opportunities to engage and train both transitioning military prior to leaving the service as well as recently transitioned veterans. In partnership with Global Benefits and HR Operations ensure we continue to offer world class support to Reservists and National Guard members called to active duty. Develop unique programs to support military spouses and families (e.g. job portability).
Promote Comcast Corporate 'thought leadership' in the space of Veteran and Military initiatives. Engage in social media forums, media exposure, and with key partners (e.g Rand Corporation, Syracuse IMVF, Student Veterans of America, US Chamber SHRM) to establish Comcast's leadership and brand on the forefront of veteran hiring, support, and engagement.
REQUIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE
Education Level: Bachelor's Degree or Equivalent, Masters preferred.
Prior or current service as a member of the Armed Forces in a National Guard or reserve capacity is strongly preferred.
Prior experience managing team members directly and in a 'matrixed' capacity. Manage team of 9-11 employees directly supporting Military employee and community and initiatives.
Ability to build networks across the enterprise in support of key objectives. Demonstrated leadership and relationship management skills.
Expert knowledge of the laws, compliance, and tax opportunities associated with veteran and reservist hiring/support
Ability to accommodate frequent travel in support of internal enterprise alignment and external engagement
