If you're coming straight out of college, you are very unlikely to land a 100K job as a director. 100K jobs go to those who have already proven themselves in the industry. There are a lot of dreamers starting their 100K job search right from college, but jobs over 100K usually end up going to those who have already paid their dues and worked for years in the industry. 100K plus jobs aren't easy to get, but if you put in the years of work and prove yourself to be a valuable asset to the company you might get the position eventually.

Director jobs that pay over 100K can vary depending on the industry you work in. Most director jobs pay over 100K, regardless of the industry. If you’re a marketing director, you’ll be heading up a team of people who come up with marketing strategies for clients. If you’re a school director in administration, you’ll be overseeing various operations within the scholastic department. If you’re an engineering director, you’ll be heading up a team of engineers to design some structure or product. Most director jobs require great leadership and organizational skills.

Requirements to reach such a high level usually include a lot of schooling and a lot of real world experience. You might be able to substitute one for the other—some director jobs will go to someone who has their PHD but comes straight out of college. Some director jobs might go to someone who only has a high school diploma, but has been in the business for decades and has proven time and time again that they are irreplaceable in the company. Those are the two angles you can come from, but most people have a Bachelor’s degree and have at least five years of experience in the field.

Salaries all start over 100K a year, but it can still vary as to how much more you get paid a year. This completely depends on the industry. Some companies will pay you well over 100K to keep you in their company. This especially goes for companies that are bringing in billions a year in revenue. If they’re a pharmaceuticals company, or a Film production company, or an alcoholic beverage company, then you might expect a higher salary to begin with. If you prove you’re a valuable asset to the company, then they might pay you $200K a year to make sure you don’t go over to one of their competitors. It all simply depends on how valuable you are and how large the company is.

These jobs are difficult. They’re very competitive because every other employee will want your job and will try for it. You have to stay on top of your game at all times and continue to produce great results for the company. It’s a hard job, but a very rewarding one especially if you’re good at it. Director jobs pay well and are hard to keep, but if you continue to prove yourself year after year, you’ll keep your position.
