Let's face it; we all know San Francisco is a fascinating city with all the sites, attractions and trolley cars, not to mention pretty great weather! Life as we know it today allows us limitless opportunities in any career we choose if we are willing to work for it. The only question is, what is out there and do I want to pursue a job in a given field just for the money and which I don‘t particularly like. Well, let's see what you might consider spending the greater part of your life doing.
Unfortunately, $100,000 a year is not what it used to be. However, it isn't ''chicken feed'' either. If you start out at that amount, save a part, invest wisely and live within your means, you would be able to retire in comfort one day, perhaps sooner than you think.
We all know where the money is. The best paying career choices are the obvious ones, doctors, attorneys, computer programmers, architects and anything that requires a lot of training. Why you ask? Because these positions require a great deal of schooling, always have a high demand for qualified applicants and require years of commitment on our part but, in the long run, pay off handsomely if you're willing to work for it.
San Francisco is one of the most expensive cities in the United States to live. For this reason, your decision to work and live there requires determination on your part as to what you want to do in order to make that dream happen. The good news is that demographics show the largest percentage of San Francisco residents are between approximately 24 to 35 years of age, the years where most of you are just beginning, have a long time to develop your skills and fit into a society that caters to your lifestyle. What more could you ask?
Let's break down the opportunities. Want to be a doctor? It doesn't matter if you want to be a general practitioner, dentist, brain surgeon or pediatrician. What does matter is the commitment to many years of schooling, studying and ''student loans''. Want to be a lawyer? The same rules apply. Remember, any career you choose that affords you a comfortable life requires hard work and dedication on your part. The choice is yours and how you want to live your life.
I don't know about you but I dislike the word ''job''. My interpretation of the word job is getting up every morning and going to a place you may dislike but keeps a roof over your head and puts food on the table, not to mention ''living for the weekends''. We all know the phrase ''TGIF'' right ? That's because, if asked the question as to whether or not we liked our ''job'', most of us would probably say no. Why? Because we didn't plan for our future or pursue that which we truly wanted to do in life.
Then there is the word ''career'' which defines that which we have planned for, pursued, trained, and love it. Nothing stood in our way to achieve what we truly wanted to do with our life. So, the next time someone asks what your job is, think about the difference in these two words.
Let's break this career thing down to suit your needs. First and foremost, each of us as individuals must realize what we want to do in life. Okay, let's say you want to be an attorney. The pay is darn good if you get that first break; however, it may take years to achieve it. Any career choice you make doesn't necessarily guarantee you a great salary. It depends on each individual, their drive, determination and if they are truly good at what they have chosen after all is said and done.
Any profession a person chooses to pursue needs to be researched on that person's end. In other words, he or she must know what is involved in achieving the end result. How much does it cost? How many hours would I have to invest each and every day? What is my competition? How dedicated do I need to be? These are all questions that must be answered before a final decision on your part must be made. If this research is completed prior to pursuing that ''$100,000'' salary, the odds are in your favor. The more you love what you are doing in life, the more money you'll make and you'll be happy doing it!
Those high paying jobs in San Francisco are out there, but you must be prepared and willing to pursue them. We have so much advanced technology at our fingertips in this day and age and there is absolutely no reason not to use them unless you‘re just lazy. Unfortunately, lazy people don't make $100,000 a year unless they're lucky enough to win the lottery and what are the odds of that happening? Once you have established your ''goal'' in life, use that technology. Go online, read the classifieds, go to job fairs, talk to friends or take and a day and just ''hoof it''.
Great paying careers positions are out there, especially in a great city like San Francisco. There is not a shortage of them, just a shortage of people qualified to fill them! So, it all depends on you and what you want to do with your life.
Remember, think about what you love to do most in life, educate yourself in that love, pursue it, work hard and be happy! After all, isn't that what we all want in the end?
